Update: Today (Thursday) we have officially had two good run-ins with the potty chair. Hopefully we might be on to something here?! The first time she went and sat down on her chair with her diaper on. Mark realized what was going on and went to take the diaper off. He said it was extremely warm (nice, huh?! ha!) but he took it off anyway. She sat right back down and continued going. The second time was before bed and she went on her own. I think I'm going to have to get some pullups or something? Jeesh... i don't even know what to buy! We'll see....
We had an exciting evening in the Bettinger house tonight. Madalyn went potty in her potty chair for the first time! Mark and I danced around the house making a huge deal out of what she had accomplished secretly hoping it would help her to do it again in the future :) Here's the story:
A few months ago, around 15 months, Mady started to tell me when she was going "potty" in her diaper by saying "bubbles." Whenever I heard this I would ask her if she wanted to sit on her potty. For about 2 days she loved to sit on it but then she began to cry when I asked her to sit down. I put the chair away as I didn't want it causing any problems for future potty training (as she was crying every time we'd go by it). She never did "go" but that's alright! She still tells me when she's going to the bathroom by announcing "bubbles."
Yesterday I saw her walking around with a curious look on her face and she was holding the front of her diaper. I asked her if she wanted to go sit on the potty (not expecting anything) and she shook her head yes. I took of the diaper and sat her on the normal toilet and she was laughing and kicking her legs but nothing. That's okay , no big deal. Tonight, after dinner, I told her that we were going to take a bath and I said "but before we get into the tub I want you to sit on your chair to see if you can go potty." She shook her head yes and bolted for her chair when I took her diaper off. I borrowed this particular chair from a friend and it actually plays a little tune when the motion sensor is set off. Mady, unfortunately, knows how to set the sensor off with her hand so that she can hear the music. So, as I was getting her bath ready she was sitting on her chair playing with the sensor making the music play. I didn't think too much about it. I picked her up and put her in the tub and looked down to see that she had actually gone potty.
I made sure she knew we were proud of her and she asked to call "ma-ma" or grandma. She proudly said "pee-pee potty" on the phone to my mom. We'll see if this is going to turn into something good or if it's just a random event. No matter what, I'm proud of that little pumpkin, that's for sure!!!!
