Eggies! Eggies!

(This might be one of those stories that Jenn and I laugh about for a long time...you on the other hand may not find it that extraordinary, as it might have been one of those "you had to be there" events.)

This morning, I decided to cook scrambled eggs/ham/cheese. It's a favorite of the family and I cook it every couple of weeks.

Evidently, Madalyn likes them...a lot. It probably didn't help that today was probably one of the first times ever that she didn't get a cup of milk when she woke up, so she was probably hungry. I scooped healthy portions for everyone and we dug in. Jenn and I finished our eggs w/ toast and we were waiting for Mady to finish. She was about 2/3 of the way done, and slowing down and Jenn mentioned she was still a little hungry. I reached over, grabbed Mady's plate and started to put half of her eggs on Jenn's plate.

Right when I picked up her plate, Mady's eyes got HUGE and she started yelling "Eggies! Eggies!" I put a few eggs on Jenn's plate, which Mady did not appreciate. I gave her back her plate and she went right back to eating...completely cleaning her plate. Ok Dad, lesson learned. Don't take breakfast from a baby.

A dream come true...

I think "firetruck" ranks right up there with one of Madalyn's first big words. Anytime we hear any kind of siren, she immediately belts out "Firetruck, Firetruck!" I swear she can hear a siren a million miles away. It's even funny how sensitive Mark and I have become to sirens just because Madalyn lets us know every time she hears one.

This past Thursday, Madalyn and I went to Michaels to meet our friend "MeMe Cole" for a bit of shopping. After we were done and we were walking to the car, a firetruck drove through the parking lot. I rolled down Mady's window so that she could get a clear view of it, and she got so excited... shrieking and yelling "firetruck!" We drove down through the parking lot to Staples where we parked again. As we were walking to the door of Staples.. here came the firetruck again. It was so cute. Mady stopped in the middle of the parking lot waving and telling the firetruck "hi." She was so excited to see it up close.

All of the firemen got out of the truck to and started walking towards the Staples door. I told Mady that we could go down and look at the truck a little closer. We passed on fireman on the way and I told him that Mady wanted to go see the truck up close. The next thing I know he's walking us over and pulling stuff out of the truck to show Mady. She got to touch a fire helmet (she wouldn't put it on!), she got some junior fireman stickers, she got to sit up in the drivers seat and the fireman turned on the lights for her. It was so fun. Her face was absolultely lit up with excitement. It was almost like her biggest dream had just come true. I knew she had an obsession with firetrucks but wow! she loved this! I was able to take her picture with my phone while she was sitting in the drivers seat. Then I took a picture of her sitting on the front of the truck but unfortunately I must have closed my phone before it finished saving and I lost it! Ugh! I am glad that I have a picture in my mind of her huge smile as she was enjoying her time on the firetruck!

We waited outside until the truck drove off. Madalyn was proudly waving and saying "bye, firetruck" as it drove by while all 3 fireman in the truck were waving back at her!

The whole rest of the day all she talked about was the "firetruck" telling me and Daddy that she saw the "helmet" and the "lights." It was definitely the highlight of our day. I am so happy that I was able to be a part of such an exciting experience for her!!!

Loving the Leaves

Friday afternoon the weather was gorgeous... enough so that we didn't need jackets. I was babysitting for a girl that goes to our church and we decided to take Mady outside to play in the leaves. Mady had never really played in the leaves before then - a few times she would walk through piles of them and kick them but that's about it.

Daddy came outside and started raking the leaves into a pile for the girls to play in. Before I knew it Mady was running across the driveway straight for the pile of leaves. She jumped right in. It was so cute to watch her get so excited. She would run and jump into the pile and then get up and do it all over again. She eventually laid down in the leaves while "Leena" and Daddy piled more leaves on top of her. She was covered up to her chin in leaves and smiling the whole time. Madalyn kept saying "more leaves, more leaves."

Watching her play was definitely the highlight of my day. It was such a joy to watch my daughter have fun and enjoy nature. It did however take a little while to get her out of the leaves to go inside for a nap. And it took a little longer to pick the pieces of leaves out of every crevice imaginable!

Just to show you how much she loves the leaves... Saturday we were getting ready to go down to my moms house and we were loading up the car. Mark said he looked over and Mady was laying in that same pile of leaves... nice clothes, nice coat and all. Silly girl!
She couldn't get the leaves out of her diaper!
